"Have you ever had a dream, Dakota, that you were so sure was real?" Maddy broke the silence, her eyes not leaving the flame dancing in her palm. "What if you were unable to wake from that dream? How would you know the difference between the dream world and the real world?"
"What are you getting at Maddy?" Dakota asked watching the female next to him with interest. It didn't seem like her to talk in mystery. She seemed like someone who was very straight forward and honest.
"What I am saying Dakota is that this whole deal with the darklings should just be a dream." Maddy said as the flame in her hand turned blue and doubled in size. "It shouldn't be real. None of this should be happening. It wasn't supposed to work like this. We were just supposed to defeat them one by one until there were none left. Now, they are going to attack all at once."
"Unfortunately you just have to accept what is and deal with it Maddy." Dakota crooned trying to calm Maddy down. His eyes started to wonder around the clearing. Everyone had stopped what they were doing, their eyes focusing on the pair. He immediately noticed Bryce's body was tense and looked as if he was about to jump up onto the rock pile and tear Dakota apart for upsetting Maddy. "There is nothing that you can do or could have done that is going to change what is happening."

I screamed and pushed at him but he didn't budge. I then raised my knee and kneed him between the legs with all my force, and he dropped like a rock, holding his groin. Run. I took my chance.
