Debris Of A Past

It took me a while, but i think I understand it now. People purposefully hurt themselves. They crave the pain, the rapid emotions, and the adrenaline that come with it. They want to be damaged both physically and emotionally.
At some point in time I decided to stop letting people in, to stop giving people the ability to earn my trust. I thought it was to my benefit to stop giving people the oppurtunity to hurt me, but I was wrong. We all want pain, so we hand people knives knowing they will use them against us. Trusting people is just another version of self-harm, and I think that's why we trust so easily.
