During one of the scariest snow storms of the year, 17-year old Emily Levin is stuck in a airport in New York and has to get to Los Angeles within one week. The snow storm has covered most of America except the southwest. She has an interview to get into one of the country's most prestigious schools. Princeton. She is stuck at the airport until the storm clears. With her time running out she meets a small town actor...

Theodore Meyer, 17 who has his first audition in LA the same time Emily's interview. Theo has no idea who he is, or why he has this destined feeling to become an actor. He is testing his shot for his chance to become the next star of Hollywood. And has an on and off relationship with his bubbly, outgoing girlfriend. Or I assume that is what he means.

When the airline is cancelling flights, Emily's last resort is to go cross-country in Theo's (rented) 1983 RV with two dogs.
(Not his idea of course)
During the trip, Theo and Emily came up with an idea for their fellow traveling teens of America to follow. 11 ground rules or "guidelines" to follow. Not to break!
