The day they met, Kylo and Hux both swore an oath to themselves that they would not let the other get under their skin. Kylo would not let the General belittle and insult him incessantly, and Hux would not let the Knight upstage him in front of Supreme Leader Snoke.
They also swore to themselves that they wouldn't develop feelings - emotions - for the other. Fraternization aboard the ship was beneath General Hux, and Kylo Ren did not need weakness in attachments, after all.
