The year is X283. The Earth you know now has fallen, leaving behind only one advanced civilization to hold all survivors. Well, most.
In Môraine, sects of people separate the rich from the poor- there is no in between. But when Larkin Raleigh becomes that in between, she doesn't know what to do with herself. Born to an insolvent family and taken against her will to central Môraine, the heart of the country, her entire world is turned upside down, and so is that of everyone else she has ever known.
When a threat to Môraine and its inhabitants becomes evident, the country falls to turmoil. The outskirts fray to edges and the center dwindles away, all while the royal family faces mayhem within the palace walls.
