Tarquin Jenkins is a 15 year old boy, living in the picturesque village of Steeple Snoring, near a canal in middle England. 

He jumps from the Silvery Moon, a narrowboat moored on the Oxford Canal, but he doesn't swim in canal water, he swims back and forth through time on an antique barber's chair. 

Mentored by Jeremiah Cavendish, the Steeple Snoring lock keeper, to follow in his dead parents footsteps, Tarquin prepares to become a time travelling spy for the British Intergalactic Foreign Service and live in the in the year 2340.
