A noirish look at a nuclear winter.
Every Tuesday he climbs outside their tunnel and through the old bus and sits on top, in a beach chair, to remember. And today the snow's falling. He remembers how his family was killed in the cold front when the military finally found their rebel hideout. . .
The land is covered in snow - who knows how, maybe a bomb, maybe the ice caps melted (highly unlikely), whatever the cause, the snow's freezing to the point of burning.
Come, won't you visit this land for just a moment?

Certainly they could trust that those in power ultimately had the best interests of the people in mind, right? ~~~ Luna slouched low in her seat, staring at droplets of water that ran diagonally down the window of the bus. The sky was a flat, depressing grey and the incessant, soaking rain left her constantly chilled. It was a typical "liquid sunshine" day in the Pacific Northwest. They drove past a single tall scraggly tree on top of a hill shrouded in mist. The creepy tree was full of screaming crows. How could she hear them from inside the bus when she couldn't even seem to hear the voices of the kids around her? Geez, that was an awfully freaking dark image. She shivered and looked away. What did they call a group of crows again? Right, a murder of crows. Perfect. The weather was certainly the only thing that was typical these days, although you'd never know it by looking around the bus at most of the kids as they sat joking and gossiping with each other just like they had before... before that day everything had changed. Floating amongst a far off solar system, a coreless planet lays drifting. Its surface frozen over with nothing internally to heat through its mantles, making life ordinarily impossible to survive on. The planets previous inhabitants have been left to mere bones and dust from the destruction of the planets core, with their creations left to wander the remains and pick up the pieces of the now humanless world. But one day the fabric of the universe warped and pinched, and the planet saw its only piece of organic life in years, hair unnaturally whitened and an eye blacked out, donning clothing unfit for the harsh conditions. But luck had it that this person stumbled across the robotic creations that the dead humans left behind, giving him shelter from the piercing cold of the outside. But not all was fine, food is scarce, and searching for food becomes a necessity to provide for this misfit among those who do not need sustenance. Bearing the cold will likely be inevitable, and after his necessities are met, perhaps this spontaneous visitor could assist those providing him shelter, there isn't much left to do on this planet, after all.

This year he's woken up, badly injured, on the floor of a barracks room, with no clue how he got there, who he had for backup, or why he's been left for dead by persons unknown. He's not completely there, his brain malfunctioning and even the lizard unable to get all his systems running. But someone has let the winter into the barracks, and Sergeant Stillwater, badly wounded and barely more than a dangerous animal himself, has to survive in Arctic conditions and see, not only who he has to defeat to survive, but who else might need his help.Complete
