Scorched

Kenzandra Ashanti Nneka Yeboah, or Kenza, is heir to the throne of Maseo, one of nine Nyvernas (or states), in Masoyi Gareku, a kingdom of nothing but turmoil. The drought that has scourged the land for nearly two years continues still, racial riots break out practically every other day, and another Nyverna, Itrionadie, is attempting to take over the entirety of Masoyi Gareku, their king on a greed-driven search for a treasure told of in an ancient legend. The first kingdom to fall is Kenza's own.

Forced to abandon her once regal and comfortable life, Kenza, her father, mother, and little brother, Abi, have to flee their Nyverna, pursued an enemy army, the leader of which is intent to hunt them down and kill or torture them for information that could be useful to his search. Encountering bandits and loss and magic and a sister Kenza never knew she had, the young princess goes on a journey that changes everything.

This story has a lot of made up words that are difficult to remember, so here are some if you get confused:

Masoyi Gareku: the giant kingdom. It's like America, which has individual states, or Canada, which has provinces. In this case, they are nine "states", which are called...

Nyvernas: the states within Masoyi Gareku. Synonyms in this story will NOT be kingdom. If I say kingdom, I'm talking about Masoyi Gareku. They WILL be province or state.

Baquwi: This is a kingdom like Masoyi Gareku. Obviously, there is more to the world than just Kenza's 'country'. In their language, a kingdom is officially titled a Baquwi. Synonyms for Baquwi: realm, kingdom.
