His southern accent was thick but definitely not South Carolinian. It sounded more like he was from Alabama or Mississippi.
"True. For how long?"
"Four weeks. I ran away because of...circumstances," he said, trailing off on the last word.
"Prove to us you're not dangerous," Marcus threatened.
"Prove to me you're not dangerous," Eli countered. "I don't even know your names."
"Fine. I'm Marcus, that's Peyton, Luke, and Aaliyah," he answered, gesturing toward each of us as he spoke. I could tell he didn't trust the guy, but he seemed good enough. He hadn't said anything to make us distrust him, but he also hadn't said anything to make us trust him.
"Look, dude, I'm not trying to hurt you. I'm looking for something a friend told me about a few weeks ago.
