(If the Mature label bothers you, please read the author's note after the description. Thank you.)
At twenty-three, Lyric Cross had been through more in her life than some in their sixties. Born to a mother who is a prostitute and a father who is a pimp, she is sent away to her grandmother to be raised. It is there, at the young age of nine she is given her first guitar and begins to learn the power of music. From the blues to rock, notes and melodies follow her, along with a gift for poetry. At the age of thirteen, due to an unforeseen circumstance, she shipped back to LA to live with her mom and father. After facing years of abuse and torment, she at last gathers the courage to leave her parents' apartment. Weeks of homelessness follow and Lyric begins to think her life is going to be one long, off key song. That is, until a gaming Youtuber named Mark, a record store, and a shot with a unique band changes her prospects.
But of course the ghosts of the past aren't just figments for Lyric. They are things that not only haunt, but can hurt and possibly kill, and it will take more than a siren's song to drive them away.
Note From the Author: I want people to not be scared away by the "mature" label. I want to be on the side of caution with this one, since I will be talking about Lyric's mother being a prostitute, however nothing graphic of that nature will be shown. I will also handle Lyric's physical abuse from her parents' also in a non-snuff manner. I think some older teens can handle the content in this book, however anyone younger fifteen I urge to stay away from this. This is not going to be extremely rated M or R--I would say safely PG-13. However, due to the issues of abuse and the mother's occupation, I am making this "mature" so I do not get in trouble with the community and any admins. Thank you for understanding, and I do hope you give this a read! Chapters will be posted by the middle or end of this week.
