This is a true story my Nana told me from when she was growing up in London during the Blitz. I obviously have fictionalized it a bit, but it is a true account. She passed away recently, so I'm writing this as a tribute to her and also so the stories of people who went through World War Two won't be forgotten.

Through this process, Simone met the men she would be stationed with, being those of the 100th Bomb Group. They all seemed okay in Simone's opinion- except for one, that is. John D. Brady, the bane of her existence- he was insufferable, always cranky, and for some reason hated her before she could even have a real conversation with him. The hatred was mutual, of course- however, the hatred was quick to morph into something different, something more friendly after the two encountered near-death situations. It was something that resembled love- something that was love, and it was so very clearly the one thing that was destined to save them in the end. Tragedy can happen to anyone, anytime and anywhere, and the saddest part about that truth is that tragedy is unavoidable. No one can prevent a natural disaster from happening. No one can prevent death from knocking on their doorstep - if it's an accident, or a sickness - it cannot be prevented, and it cannot be avoided. You never know on which day tragedy will come knocking on your front door. You never know who it would strike next - if it would be you, or someone else, or someone who is very close to you. The thing is, with tragedy, it doesn't ask questions before it strikes. It just does. River and Sophia were two people who experienced the same tragedy: loss, but their stories were very different from each other, but they shared the same pain of losing someone they loved, someone who was close to them.
