Bryony Carrano is a 23 year old struggling to make ends meet. Everything had been going okay a year ago, but you've got to hit rock bottom at some point. She's convinced her midlife crisis has decided to strike early.
Everyone from her childhood is either dead, gone, or an asshole. She's not a loner, but working long hours at a high end business corporation doesn't exactly leave much time to socialize. It's all stress and not even a decent paycheck, and she's been considering going back to being a waitress.
When she meets an intriguing young man her age, she's immediately drawn to him, and they quickly form an inseparable friendship. He whisks her away to a secret hideaway for a vacation, where they have the time of their lives. At least until they have their first disagreement.
During their time on paradise, he wants the friendship to be something more. She has a past that she hasn't shared with anyone except for her brother. Bryony is unsure about a relationship, and it quickly leads to tension between the two.
Upon their return, he promptly disappears, and she doesn't hear from him again for a very long time. She is left feeling confused and lost. And yet, perhaps there was still something to be found for Carrano from all the mess and chaos.
