"It's just strange," he repeated, replacing the telephone cradle and retrieving the money that the machine ejected. "Mom has never missed a single phone call. And when I say never, I mean never. Her phone stays with her all the time." His brow was furrowed and he sounded troubled.

"Aren't you fretting unnecessarily? She might be asleep for all you know."

"No, you don't understand. She never parts from her phone. Never. Even when she's asleep, she keeps her phone in her hand," he explained, his face now showing trace signs of anxiety and fear.

"But why would she do that?"

"Why?" he blinked, processing the question in his mind. He knew perfectly why. How couldn't he?

As I leave, the cold British wind greets me. I zip up my sweater, and start walking home. Thanks to my parents, I don't have a car. "You're too irresponsible for a car, Courtney. You can always save up for one once you leave this house," my father had scoffed when I asked him. I walk at a fast pace, hoping to avoid any random strangers lurking in the dark streets. "Hey, darling. What are you doing all alone in the dark?" I hear a voice ask. I pick up his deep, British accent. I ignore him, and start jogging. Just a few more streets... I hear his swift feet, and he grabs me from behind, pressing a wet cloth on my face. He drags me behind a building. My muffled screams are the only noise in the silent night. I try to break from his strong, yet careful hold. I wiggle under his grip, but he only lets out a sigh. "Shhhhh...don't scream...everything will be alright...shhhh..." he whispers. [COMPLETED] "Shoot," Joey mumbles, letting out a string of profanities under his breath. We turn around to find a group of men, all with guns, standing where we just came from, and they look pissed... probably because they were forced to run through this tunnel after us. "Thought you could get away, didn't you?" The man who I saw before asks. His husky voice booms in the hollow tunnel, reverberating off of the dirt walls. His voice sounds familiar, and a realization strikes me. It sounds like the man from my dream. I remember him holding a gun and wearing a blue suit, smiling evilly at me. "Leave us alone," Joey says, sounding dangerous and snapping me out of my thoughts. The levity of the situation hits-we need to get out of here. I look around for a route of escape and thankfully I see a light, literally, at the end of the second tunnel. I let out a small, almost inaudible, gasp and nudge Joey. He looks at me and I subtly gesture with my head to the second tunnel. He glances at it and immediately we are on the same page. His jaw sets and he looks at the group. The man speaks up again, chuckling darkly-a sound I will never forget and will be permanently etched into my brain, "You can thank your father for starting this mess." -------------------------- Liza was a normal teenaged girl, living the average life that an eighteen year old girl should be living. "Let me go, you sick, twisted, bastard!" I seethed through gritted teeth. I felt an uncontrollable amount of fear rake over my body. I soon began to shake. The fear that I pushed aside was bubbling up in my stomach, and I felt like I was going to yak. I swallowed the urge to do so, and gritted my teeth. Trust me, I wanted to yak all over this pretentious asshole. "Sorry kitten, not ever going to fucking happen." He said carelessly as he tightened his grip on the steering wheel. His eyes were fixed on the dark road ahead of us, the road I surely didn't want to die on. "I'm not your fucking kitten!" I hissed. "Now let me out of this fucking car before I rip your balls off and shove them down your thr-" Before I could even finish my sentence the car swerved to the side of the road and came to a sudden stop, immediately sending me flying into the dash. My forehead collided with the roughness of the dash. I slowly pulled away and tried to sit back up, a small groan escaped my mouth as I rubbed my now bleeding forehead. I heard him rustling around, but couldn't see much due to the black spots in my vision. I heard the sound of something popping open and the sound of liquid being poured. I rubbed my head painfully and blinked several times. "Tell me kitten," I heard him say slyly. "Does this smell like chloroform?" He chuckled. Highest ranking: #1 in action First in Mafia series. As I felt the chloroform pressed against my mouth I kicked back, sending the guy flying to the floor. "Michael," I yell, pulling on his arm, "you gotta get up, ok?" Reluctantly, he begins to run with me into the Forrest. I pull him quickly as he recovers from the fall, despite feeling drowsy from the chloroform. The man must have recovered by now and chances are he's gaining on us at lightning speed. I feel Michael catch himself under his feet and speed up having recovered from the fall. He looks to me, "Split up?" I nod knowing exactly what he's thinking. There's only one of him and two of us, he can't take us both out. Just as we approach the lake, we split, confusing the man. He had stopped and was watching us both run away, probably evaluating which one of us he had a better chance with. I turn back to look where I'm going when I hear a loud bang. I scream. Pain flares up in my lower leg as though something bit me. The bullet ripped through my leg but stopped as I clearly have no exit wound. Expecting the man to have almost caught up with me, I look up only to see his back as he runs after Michael. *** 18 year old Blaze is kidnapped and taken from her home town along with her best friend Michael.
