[a re-imagining of 'the seven ravens' by the brothers grimm]

"I have pondered his words and I believe I now understand." Proteus stood from his chair at the head of the table to cast an eye over his six brothers. They looked away fearfully to hide the uneasy feeling that, despite his blindness, he could still see them. They watched his hand as it reached out to grip his chalice and frowned as he looked at the dark claret swirling inside it. Proteus sighed and gazed out to where he felt the table lay. "We must spill the blood to break the curse." He held the goblet by his side and poured the contents out onto the floor.

With the crimson liquid pooling at his feet and raised his head and declared their cause.

"By our hand, our sister must die."
