Hydra: book one in the entwined worlds series.

I jumped back in surprise as a hand emerged from the center of the pond, the glassy water hardly rippling as the fingers broke through the surface. squinting through the fog, I could make out the torso of a girl. I crept slowly closer, until the tips of my toes were hovering above the water. The girl was mesmerizing, perhaps the most beautiful being I've ever seen. her hair flowed out around her, the long strands swirling around in the water. Her gaze was so intense, her piercing blue eyes seemed to see right through me. I tried with all my might but couldn't look away. I could faintly hear my mother in the distance, calling my name; I didn't care. All I could think about was the stunning creature before me. She smiled and held out her hand. Without thinking I reached out, and as soon as brushed my fingertips against hers, I could feel something was wrong. I tried to pull back but my hand was stuck in her ice cold grip. the clouds above shifted and a sliver of moonlight shown through. I looked up and I saw the girls face, but now in light, it looked less beautiful. Less human. I let out a horrified gasp, and her smile widened, showing row upon row of razor sharp teeth. I barely had time to scream as she pulled me under.
