Elizabeth Davis wanted only a few things. She wanted to go to college, get a job, and live a long and prosperous life. But that is not to be.

The goddess Athena comes to her in a dream, instructing her to lead a group of her friends to defend themselves from a monster attack until they can be rescued and brought to Camp Half-Blood, where Elizabeth learns about her true heritage. But all is not right at camp.

Camp Jupiter and Camp Half-Blood, who have gotten on well together recently, are starting to fight. It looks like it could be the beginning of another civil war. Then Elizabeth hears a prophecy that sends Elizabeth and her friends off on a quest to defeat the goddess who may be the source of all the discord. Yet the prophecy warns of a traitor, sending feelings of mistrust among the adventurers.
