It had been three months... Two, since they had captured her, and another month since she'd come back from whatever place they had sent her to 'recover'.
Not that, that had seemed to help her- there was she standing in an unsolicited corner, midnight hair encompassing her face, and a black dressed that the mocked shadows. There she was, standing in that corner, hidden as the people of the party laughed and drank to her return. Someone let out a shrill, drunken scream nearby and she flinched, her eyes shut snagged into whatever horrid memory that clung to her from those months of what could only benightmares.
They told him they had fixed her, that she was back to normal, but as those haunted eyes finally opened and stared him down, he knew that was one of the many lies they had spun. Spun to keep the word from spreading: their top assassin was broken, and they couldn't do anything about it.
