The Walk On

Hair in cap? Check.
Cap covering my face? Check.

I walk on to the field with my cap covering as much as my face as possible. I can feel the eyes on me, the boys watching. They are wondering who I am and why I wasn't in the locker room. I spot the coach and nod, he nods back. The boys can't know until I get on the team.

They ask questions or tease me to see if I give up through out the tryout.

"You sure you can see with your hat like that?"

"He's kinda small isn't he?" one asks his friend laughing.

"Who do you think you are coming on our field and not saying anything?"

Oh, if only they knew I've heard a lot worse. I am the only girl playing baseball on an all boys team after all.
