Au. What if Gray was never found by Ur and Lyon but instead by an ice dragon?
Frost the Ice Dragon finds Gray after Deliora's attack and takes him in and teaches him Ice Dragon Slayer magic. On July 7, X777 Frost disappears like the other dragons and Gray is alone. Gray wanders around and eventually finds Fairy Tail and joins. A couple of hours later Makarov returns with Natsu Dragneel, the Fire Dragon Slayer.
Understanding each other's pain of being abandoned Natsu and Gray start hanging out, brawling with each other until they eventually become lovers. The fire and ice dragons are supposed to have mated centuries ago so why not the fire and ice dragon slayers too? After all fire and ice together make steam.
