In a world were females are subservient to males, Murphy - a young shifter fights to live the life she wants to, and make her own choices.
A little easier said than done when your mate is a dominating, controlling Alpha male.
"You look as if you want to run." He breathed, his ragged voice washing over Murphy like a bucket of ice cold water. Her lips tightened into a thin line as she looked at him with defiance in his eyes - oh he was going to love this. "Go on, make it more fun for me little mate...run." He whispered, pointing his hand in the direction of the looming forest. Murphy was conflicted, she knew the chase would only urge him on more but she would be damned if he thought she would give into him without a fight, so without a second thought she got up and ran, praying to whatever deity that she wouldn't be caught.

The Abused Mate

When a werewolf turns 18, they are forced to take part in the annual mating ceremony. This is a typical story, told time and time again. The females run, the males run after them. They catch them, mark them on the spot and take them away from their family and friends to live a 'happy' life making pups with a complete stranger. Well, at least, that was Alia's opinion. She was 25 now. Never mated, never caught. She worked hard for things to stay that way. But she never expected the alphas of the other tribes would also run after her. Their last task was to convince my pup to submit and let them mount and claim me. If they couldn't and I made it back without being mounted then I was free. A barbaric rite but one that was a fact of our existence everyone who came of age did it. Males were more likely to pass and not get mounted. Females pretty much always got mounted. So I was doomed. Every time I tried to stop, something clenched in my stomach, instinctual and feral. It compelled me to move. Sometimes it felt like it was pulling me in the opposite direction, back the way I came. That feeling I ignored - nothing short of demonic possession could convince me to go anywhere near that forest ever again.
