After a terrible hate crime suffered by 16 year old Luke, everything changes. His mom uproots his life and moves him to a small city in Vermont. Things are starting to look up for Luke, new friends and a new start, no one knows his story here. At this new place, no one knows how broken he is. He hides it well, convincing even his mom that he's not emotionally affected by these awful scars. He has to hide who he is, he will no longer be the 'dorky gay kid', he's just the straight mysterious new kid with a broken arm and a scarred face. Hiding who he is as a person is getting hard for him to deal with. He's always been an open guy, and he's not sure how much longer he can tell lame excuses about how he got the thick angry red slice that runs down from his eyebrow to his jaw....The worst part is pretending to be straight, which was his moms idea of course. He meets the very athletic and openly gay Brett, who starts to try getting close to him. but he can't allow that temptation. Will Luke be strong enough to be himself? Or will he lose himself in his new identity?

Everything is cringy and bad about this story, but I decided to complete this book since I got a lot of comments disappointed it was never finished. Eric didn't choose or really want to be gay, it just kind of happen- something that just happened, he can't even remember how he found out he was gay all he knew was that he was, And it wasn't like there's nothing wrong with that. Eric wasn't homophobic, he didn't feel disgusted in himself but rather disappointed. Everyone put pressure on him to be this perfect person, whether it being grades or sports or family- everything would be ruin if he came out. That's why he hadn't told anyone in the last couple years, not because he's scared- pft, Eric Goodmen scared? Star football player? Could have all the women by just a click of a button if wasn't for being in love with the same gender- scared? He was just a little 'inconvenienced'. One party changed everything though- to many drinks and making out with the wrong gender to send his fake perfect life crashing down when discovering out the first person he came out to, kissed, and had sex with was Callum Micheals. Mr pretty boy. And if that requires forging a desperate pact with a half-vampire, despite his deep-seated hatred towards his kind, then so be it. *** It's mostly a comfort read, so I'd recommend reading when you're in for the long haul (It's a fantasy romance after all!) Also, regarding the Mature Warning: 1. The story does contain mature scenes, but only in chapters where it is explicitly mentioned. The rest of the story remains clean. 2. Also, the mature chapters are completely skippable. The storyline continues exactly from where it left off before those chapters, so skipping them will not affect your understanding of the plot in any way. These scenes sort of act as a more detailed alternative to the usual "fade-to-black" moments, which are otherwise implied in the surrounding chapters.
