I used to hate the commotion of the busy Chicago streets. I would loathe getting up in the morning for work. Now, I would give anything for it all to be back. You see, the world went to shit about a year ago. Everything is gone. Running water, electricity, it's all just a distant memory. There's a virus that the CDC "accidently" released upon the public. It starts with chills, then a fever. Eventually it killed you. If you were lucky, you weren't infected. You just had to live in an infected world and find away to survive. Once you died, you came back. Not as a human, but as a flesh eating monster. Much like a zombie. I've started calling them walkers. Of course, there's always a catch. If you're bitten by a walker, you're infected. I wasn't infected, luckily. I don't know how I've managed to survive this long.

[Book 1] Crawlers: once normal people like you or me. They had hobbies, families, friends, interests, but now they are feral monsters. The infection spread, wiping out almost half the human race, and leaving the rest as either Crawlers or Survivors. The infected's eyes will black out, before giant, black, bug-like legs will rip out of their back, giving them a newfound speed and agility, as well as an insatiable bloodlust. Body fluids entering any open wound, including the eyes, mouth, and nose, will seal the person's fate; they are now infected. It won't be long before they start screeching at the moon in a mock howl. The problem is, I am infected. I turned but retained most of my humanity. With my new lifestyle in a new world, I can't expect anything or anyone to act as I predict. My biggest question is, can I save my humanity? Or will I simply become part of the mindless feral swarm?
