In the far future, genetic engineering is used to strip all sapient species of disability. But when humans have a brief fad of natural birth, disabled children start reappearing. They're quickly termed "Pandoras," the value of their very lives brought into question, and laws are put into place to prevent their births from happening ever again.

Xandri Corelel is one of these Pandoras, a young autistic woman scorned by her family and fighting to eke out a living on the streets of Wraith. Then she meets Chui Shan Fung, captain of the first contact and refugee ship Carpathia. Captain Chui has been watching her, and knows about the talent for understanding alien species that Xandri has cultivated. She wants Xandri as part of her crew--but first, Xandri must pass a test to see if she'll even fit in.

Wary but hopeful, Xandri joins the Carpathia at Psittaca, a newly-discovered planet peopled by parrot-like sapients. Learning to understand this new species is the easy part compared to trusting her new crew mates. As Xandri continues her diplomatic efforts with the Psittacans, it becomes apparent that the Carpathia's crew aren't the only ones to have discovered the planet, but these other visitors don't have good intentions. In order to protect this beautiful new world, Xandri must find it in herself to overcome years of abuse and neglect, and trust in her new crew.

He paid more attention to people now. Little did he know that this little difference would kill him the next time he encountered another alien about to return home. It would tear him apart, cell by cell, until he was unmade. His mind being transported away. --- So distantly far away there is a race that advanced to the point where they built dyson spheres to house their civilizations. In their continual expansion, they seeded galaxies with pods and connection satellites. Over time they upgraded their dyson spheres into matryoshka brain Cores. Imagine a computer powered by a star. Citizens of Cores no longer age once they upload their minds into the virtual living system of the Core. While they didn't age, most still choose to cycle through life and death though at a different scale of time compared to our lives. Citizens can visit other planets and live there as if they were on a "vacation". Mercury is Earth's hub connected to the closest Core and Earth is a remote vacation spot for wealthy citizens. When the main character was 10 he witnessed a citizen returning to the Core. Jailed, abandoned by family and friends, and fired from his job, Chase walks through life looking for the next bad thing to happen. But then he meets the Caelans. They have always been completely and utterly peaceful. Their planet had conquered and eradicated anger long ago. Something has suddenly changed, however, within the Caelan people here on Earth. After more than 50 years of peace, anger has infected some of them-like a sickness-forcing all 939 to be quarantined here. And when they meet Chase, they discover something even more disturbing-their psy does not work on him. His immunity to their power presents a serious security risk. On the surface, there doesn't seem to be anything special about him-other than having ADHD. Could this unusual condition be responsible for such a serious breach of Caelan security? Join Chase on the adventure of his life as he makes wondrous discoveries, improbable friends, terrifying enemies, finds unexpected love, and begins to believe in himself-for the first time in his life.

Xeno yearns to have access to The Nth Dimension like The White Boys, famed telepaths who suffered brain damage when they made contact with extraterrestrial intelligence. Out of work as a bartender since the Shoki Pao dance club mysteriously burned down, Xeno's lackluster lifestyle is getting harder to maintain. The public pill silos that dispense Sunlite, a one-size-fits-all mood elevating drug, haven't been refilled in months, so the citizens of Metropa turn to designer drugs like Black Magic, an addictive knock-off with terrible side effects. Having survived an overdose of Black Magic, and successfully revived by Drinama, a brain implant slipped to him as a Mickey at a job fair, Xeno earns an entry level position as an agent for secret service organization Intellegella. Garry, his handler, introduces Xeno to the industrial version of the black box, allowing Xeno's pineal gland access to synthetic sensory perception with the turn of a dial, along with the Noumenol patch, a skin absorbed drug that stabilizes his vital signs so that he doesn't suffer a cardiac arrest. Xeno's initial mission is to test the black box on the field, under Garry's watchful eye, and to locate Trianne, an ex co-worker, ex model, ex pole dancer for the Shoki Pao, gone missing and showing signs of spontaneous human combustion, an emerging side effect of Black Magic, and a public safety hazard. All he has to do is bring Trianne back to Intellegella for treatment. It's that simple . . . according to Garry.

Single Father's Guide to Monster Hunting by BossaNovaFlare_1

"Daddy, please don't turn off the lights. The monsters will find me." Ana pleaded as she pulled the covers up to her nose. "Don't worry, Ana. There's no such thing as monsters." Frank answered before flexing dramatically, earning a giggle from her, "Besides, if they tried to hurt you, I'd just beat 'em up!" "Promise?" "Promise." He kissed her forehead before he tucked her in and turned off the light. "Goodnight, angel." --- The world changed overnight. A mysterious system appeared in everyone's minds announcing the detection of a "Breach." Monsters unlike anything humanity had ever seen before began to emerge, immediately ending one-third of the world's population. And that was just in the beginning. Every father wants to be their daughter's hero. It's an unspoken rule written into every man's DNA. But most fathers aren't pitted up against eight legged abominations. Frank was just an ordinary man; no training, no experience, just depression and a four year old. Yet, he was all that stood between Ana and certain death. If that's the way it was, then he couldn't back down. He made a promise, and he would keep it or die trying. Luckily, the world wasn't entirely merciless. This "System" granted humanity a fighting chance: otherworldly gifts and powers that defied the laws of nature. While Frank's gift wasn't all sunshine and rainbows, it did give him power. Power enough to hopefully keep his daughter safe, and punish the monsters that dared threaten her in the first place!
Chip & Pin, Pandora (book 1 of 5) by MikeBacon70
1 part Complete Mature
Pandora Wallace, along with her twin Adam, is born into the iniquitous British society of 2035. This story follows the first 18 years of Pandora's blighted life. In 2015 the British government start micro-chipping babies, at birth, and then spend 14 years also chipping all of the adult population. In 2030 they abolish cash completely and all transactions have to be carried out via a human's on-board chip. This microchip is inserted into the heart wall of all acceptably healthy babies at the moment of their birth; the heart muscles powers the chip by recharging the battery. A second microdot 'PIN' is inserted at a random point in the baby's body. Should this 'PIN' become separated from the heart chip by any distance it causes the heart microchip to explode. The government is able to electronically disable or suspend the operation of anyone's chip at their whim, leaving the owner reliant upon the charity of others, or dead. Pandora is born with a minor gene defect which precludes her from being 'chipped'. Following a family crisis, at 14 years old, she is forced out on the streets to join the vast numbers of 'non-chips' who have to rely upon charity and slave labour to survive, not being allowed to work legally or earn money. Pandora finally goes to work for the underworld, determined to claw her way to the top and acquire an illegal microchip. She becomes a messenger at first and then her virginity is auctioned off by her boss. She becomes a high-class prostitute, a bodyguard and tangles with both a psychopathic killer and a government department determined to kill her and her boss. Books 2, 3, 4 & 5r continue to tell Pandora's story, together with that of the ill-conceived Chip & PIN system.

On a frontier colony, tragedy strikes time and again. Growing up knowing little else, eager to avenge a mother's death at the hands of Batarians, a youngster's journey begins to "be all they can be". But that may be something other than Human - and the shadow that falls across all of the Systems Alliance may be from within as well as without.
