A retelling of the famous story of Hades and Persephone. Hades, the God of the Dead, Lord of the Underworld has everything he could ever want except for one thing. Love. Persephone, the daughter of Demeter, a controlling parent hell bent on keeping her daughter "safe" for all eternity, is constantly under the supervision and iron grip of her mother, and over time, it has created a spark of rebellion that yearns for freedom. Through a series of mistakes, clever planning and permission from Zeus, Hades and Persephone fall in love down in the Underworld. But this doesn't sit well with Demeter who is completely unwilling to except that her adult daughter isn't a baby anymore. And so as Zeus tries to reason with the love struck Hades and the psychotic and increasingly violent Demeter, things get more and more complicated as no one is seemingly ever satisfied with anything.

Zagreus is an ignorant, stereotypical bad boy with an ideal of sexist remarks and has a strong sexual appetite for anyone he finds attractive. He is named Prince of the Underworld, and appointed the God of Hunt & Rebirth. However he's only lived in the Underworld for the first year of his life, before the Gods decided that it would be best if Hades and Zagreus were banished to the Isle of the Lost. Leaving his mother Persephone to run the Underworld as it's Queen while Zagreus and his father are on the Isle. Persephone worried for her son's wellbeing sent Pain and Panic to the Isle so they can take care of the young boy. As Zagreus grew up he never had a proper understanding of a stable home being passed around between, his father, and the imps. But when he is given a chance to live in the land of opportunity he takes it. Dispite the God's protest, and disapproval to the idea. (Descendants belongs to disney and the writers, I only own the dialogue I make for Zagreus and the other characters I make in this book.)

Hades and Persephone is a story that has so many different sides to it. Some people romanticize their relationship (often without taking into account certain aspects of the myth) while others insist that Hades was nothing but perverse and awful... even though taking Persephone, after having her father's permission, was quite normal for the time! This is a retelling of the ancient myth, with all the ancient components to it. I researched the story from many different sources and tried to make it as accurate as possible. The only writer's license was the amount of time she spent in the Underworld before Hermes came-- I never found an exact number, so I wrote it as six months, partly so that they had time to truly fall for each other, partly so that she would return to the mortal realm immediately after being returned to Demeter. Persephone is a character who understands the place goddesses and women have in the world, understands the normalcy of her capture, but still struggles with feeling like it's unjust. Hades is a god with few romantic relationships in his past (Leuce and Minthe) who hadn't fallen for anyone for a while and wasn't quite sure how to treat a goddess in a realm he never visited. This is the story.
