Aunt Sapphire has passed away, leaving no children. Her large fortune is passed down to her brother's only child, Essie Compton. Essie inherits a large fortune, which includes her Aunt's beautiful estate Mooreton House. However she is only entitled to her inheritance when she is married. And Essie has no desire to marry.
Essie's Father arranges for Mr Leonard Ballard to stay at their home, in the hopes that Essie will be persuaded to marry him. His sister Emma comes along for the visit, bearing her own secrets, one of which may land Essie and her family in a lot of trouble.
