  Ania Clayton is a nineteen year old chemical engineer at Skie (pronounced sky). The head of the compound, Jamie Skie, proposes that Ania go on an expedition to find survivors of the nuclear war that occurred hundreds of years ago. To her surprise, the outside world is very much alive, compared to the desolate desert wasteland she was told the world was in school. She meets a young man and he takes her to his village. Something terrible happens and Ania is blamed for it. She escapes the leader's clutches, but not for long. Ania is found by the Skie Search Team and is taken home.
