When the dead corpse of well-known Ophelia Hale was found washed up on a beach, the residents of Coogee were shocked to their core. After a rather short investigation, her death was ruled as a suicide, and the town returned to normality. But when newcomer Nixon Frost finds a torn piece of Ophelia's diary in his room, he knows this isn't true. With the help of Ophelia's former best friend, Willa Baxter and ex-boyfriend Miller O'Conner, Nixon tries to answer the billion dollar question: what happened that night?

But when she has to do a group project for her English class, things start to get interesting. A.D. Michaels uses a different writing style than usual for this story. It is told mostly in the present tense, with every fourth chapter being a flashback told in the past tense. The chapters are named with story quotes that set the tone for the entire chapter.
