Stiles was 17 and Derek was 16 when the Hale fire happened. Their moms were high school friends and the Hales took Stiles in after his parents died. Derek and Stiles were dating and Peter acted as Stiles father. The night the fire happened Stiles was out buying Derek a gift, when he got back the house was on fire. He saved Peter who was put in a coma. He didn't know anyone else survived s he left Beacon Hills.
