"We may look human, but that is not quite so. Our people are a different type, a subspecies of human. We have an uncanny ability to control the elements. Most of us can only control only one, but there is a good number that can control two, three, sometimes even four. We have the power to create and remove glamours, so we can hide ourselves from humans"

Sometimes, I wished I could go back to Michigan. Technically, I still was in Michigan, but where I am now felt like a different planet. Home was definitely a lot safer than the Refuge, where I am now, which is kind of ironic. Magic was great an all, but it had it's downsides. You weren't safe outside of a refuge, which were hard to find if you didn't know what to look for. Sometimes, you weren't even safe inside of one. Attacks, invaders, sometimes deaths of our own. Like I said, magic had it's downsides.
