When lives are threatened, Thranduil must make a choice: his kingdom or his heart. 12/14/21- y'all I wrote this in high school and I kinda want to go through it again and do a bunch of editing. Some of my writing makes me cringe and what are we here for if not improvement. That being said, this story will change starting today probably and if you're in the middle of it, hopefully I don't confuse details or timelines for you. The credit for all that awesomeness goes to J.R.R Tolkien and Peter Jackson. As for (Y/N), her backstory belongs to me, but she belongs to you!* Just so you all know, although this is a character x reader story, our little romance won't really show many signs of appearing in the beginning, so be prepared to read a fairly large amount of build-up before our love story truly begins. And, for the sake of the fic, we're gonna say Thorin is 103 and (Y/N) is 100 in the first chapter. Remember, (Y/N) is a skin-changer, and based on the 'research' I've done on the topic, skin-changers have lifespans relatively longer than those of average humans, and since no one ever really specified the exacts, I'll do what I wish with them. For the sake of the story, we'll say skin-changer lifespan can vary; some can live to be 500, others may just live to 100. AND for the sake of the fic, we'll say (Y/N) will live to be somewhere near the middle. Don't worry though, she definitely doesn't look old. And for the record, yes I get that Thorin's age in this doesn't really take into account the falling of Erebor and his presence in it, but lets just say that all of those happenings were a little more recent. BAM! (Also, if you are reading this fanfiction and like it, it would be very helpful if you shared it with other people! A/N: It was before Christmas 2014 when I first watched BBC's Emma with Romola Garai (wonderful, by the way - watch it if you haven't). A few days later I went to see The Hobbit BOTFA on its opening night. It was during a car trip from a family Christmas party when I came up with idea for this story. And while it doesn't follow the Jane Austen classic completely (Thranduil is no Mr. Knightley!), it was certainly inspired by it. I enjoyed the challenge.
