Mikayla is a junior at Bristol High School in Bristol, Tennesee. She's sixteen, 5'4, plays softball and volleyball, and has a great and positive personality. However, her family has a lot of issues. Her dad is a depressed alcoholic who likes to take his anger out on Mikayla and her twin brother, Joey. Mikayla thinks sex and relationships are stupid. It's high school. She wants to lay back and be mature. However, will that ever change? I mean, high school is always rough and deceiving, right? Mikayla is an excellent student and makes amazing grades. However, she has competition. Daniel is Mikayla's competition. He plays quarterback on their school's football team. Typical, right? Well, Mikayla and Daniel have competed against each other for years. Daniel likes to push Mikayla down and make her feel like he's superior and better. Daniel is six-foot-something and handsome. He could pull any girl he wanted, however, he remains single. Is it his terrible personality? Or does he like being single? This story is about teenage love and the problems that you can encounter in high school. Mikayla and Daniel, head to-head, all the time. However, who will win overall? Who will be the bigger person and try to drop all of their immaturity and stupidity? TW and MATURITY WARNING: Drug use, SH, reference to sex, strong language throughout the story, depression, and family trauma.

I think that's why we're still trying so desperately to get back to some sort of normalcy. Four years later and we're still on the ground, crawling, in search of the happiness that was lost that June. Summers will never be the same. Midnight walks through my neighborhood will never be the same. Field parties with bonfires and loud music will never be the same. I still don't know why you left and what lead you to the decision you made. What I do know is that we're here. We're alive and we're pushing forward to the future. A future that you're not a part of. Why do bad things happen to good people? A question that his boy is making himself more then ever this days. From the beginning we see a 17 year old boy, struggling to finish high School, filled up with insecurities, mental health issues, a toxic family home, and impossible standards to live up to. He has learn to not only hate his life, but to want finish it off as fast as possible. Close to finally graduating high school his English teacher, Mr Steve, assigns the class a special progect. "To be able to see life through different eyes, and write about it." For this, Mr Steve gets his class to assist a hospital 3 times a week, and assigns each student, with a patient. This is the moment where this boy meets Royal, a cancer sick 17 year old girl, that has lived in a hospital her hole life, but still finds beauty and meaning in it. Through out the report the boy gets more and more involved in Royal's life, spending unfortunately moments together. But through out the journey he asks himself more and more. "Why do bad things happen to good people?"
