"How the hell did you get into my phone?" Mae shrieked.

"I don't know," Jay replied. "Guess we have the same fingerprints?"

Mae Jacobs is an 18-year-old teenager fresh out of high school and ready to take on the business world that she's been raised in. She's applied and been accepted into one of the best universities in the state. Mae's really excited to attend until her mother forces her to take a gap year first and decide if Business is really what she wants to be involved with for the rest of her life. 

Jay Jones (or JJ) is a 19-year-old and an aspiring artist. He's really into painting and pottery, and is slowly saving up for university where he can properly learn and better his skills. Unlike Mae who thinks money is everything and that happiness always comes second, Jay strives for recognition and wants to be responsible for making people feel things through his art. He wants to leave his mark on the world.

Mikayla is very unique, and like Jay, she doesn't seem to fit in with her contemporaries. Instead, the two of them keep each other company, and their friendship very quickly escalates into a romantic and intimate relationship. Despite having Mikayla, Jay's troubles continue to burden him. He and Mikayla are fighting habitually, his home life is still unbearable, and his time at school is hardly any better, made worse by a bully named Calvin. Their mutual dislike of one another leads to a lot of hostility, routinely leading to Jay being sent to his school's principal. One confrontation in particular goes much too far, resulting in Jay's expulsion from school. With everything seemingly piling up, Jay is very close to his breaking point, and late one night he is blindsided by the unthinkable, pushing him much too far and effectively planting in his mind a cruel and horrific plan for revenge.
