The Poppy Alternative: what do you do when the world won't change with you? Poppy Fairhew asked that question far too many times throughout her transition from Michael into herself. It was a hard road, but the end of highschool saw a new beginning for the young country girl with corn silk hair- she was finally accepted for herself, and she was content to live a simple life. The simple life, however, was not content with her. This is the story of Roseanna, as seen through both Poppy and Michael's eyes; it is the story of a young trans person finally accepting himself with the help of someone who has already travelled the rocky road to transitioning, and of a teenage girl left behind in a world that rushes on and never slows down enough to change.

Dawson has had it rough. Not as bad as some, worse than others. He lives in constant secret, heart ache and pain. After his parents died he under went a transformation, rendering him unrecognizable. "What if I'm not one?" I asked, my body wound tight with tension. "One what?" he asked, his voice soft and low. I hesitated. Was I ready? I wanted to tell him so badly. Wanted to scream it from the fucking rooftops. But there would be no going back if I allowed the words to spill out into the world. Telling myself I didn't need someone else's validation, that I knew myself well enough to know with absolute certainty that I was trans was all good and well in principle.
