I never meant to be a disappointment to my dad or to destroy my parent's marriage, but now my mom and I are moving to a small town called Louisville over halfway through my senior year. On my first day of school, some guy steals my first kiss in the cafeteria, and I meet a girl who probably has enough problems without adding me to the list. Overall the day was a disaster, and I can't help thinking that life would be better for everyone if I never existed in the first place. This story is told from multiple points of view, and explores how the existence of one person affects the lives around them.

"You were never just a summer fun to me." He stared into my eyes and I felt exposed because I might have developed some feelings for him that I've never wanted to face. Heddy Lopez has just barely graduated and is trying to find the purpose of her life when her friends take her away for the summer before they go on separate ways. Little did she know that an old crush and complicated relationships would cross her way again making her last high school summer completely different than she'd expected it to be. The plan is to stick to routine and go on with life, continously escaping to fictional worlds and focusing on school. Mason's the new kid across the street who just seems to have trouble following him. His plan is to keep his head down and his dark, dangerous world a secret. When Maya finds herself entangled in his secret world, Mason's forced to do everything in his power to protect her. Amidst boxing lessons and impromptu road trips to safe houses, a little spark starts to fly.

I was never the cool girl... Never the centre of attention. Hell, the first party I ever went to, it was because Kelly dragged me to it and I was 17! Oh, Kelly... Kelly was my first love, my first everything but once we finished high school, we parted ways. My plans were very clear, go to university, have fun, go to parties, maybe fool around at some point when missing Kelly got too much for me to handle... , I don't know, the typical university life you see in movies. I found myself watering the fucking tree even when I knew it'd only make the roots grow deeper until there was no way of removing it. (Yes, sometimes I make very shitty metaphors, you'll get use to it...) But just because I was, much to my dismay, enjoying Eleanor Williams's company, it didn't mean she wanted me around.
