After Hosnian Prime is destroyed, what's left of the Resistance's supporters desperately search for another planet to be the face of the New Republic. As the First Order continues to crush any form of sedition, support for the Resistance fades. Aware that the loss of hope is the key to the First Order's success, representatives of the rebellions from the Core Worlds of Coruscant and Corellia make contact with Mandalore in hopes that its young Duchess will revoke its neutrality and allow it to operate as a new hope for democracy and peace to return to the galaxy.
19 year old Ariadne Kryze governs Mandalore with the pacifism she was raised to believe in, instituted in Mandalore by her grandmother, Duchess Satine. But Ari feels something deep within her that diverges from the peaceful ways she was raised to believe in. A call to power, fueled by rage, anger, pain. After meeting an unlikely ally who seems to understand this innate call to the darkness, she begins to find it more and more difficult to stay aligned with the light.
