I open my eyes as someone says in a chirpy voice "Mary Alice Brandon, I give you the gift of true love, so you may have your own happily ever after!" I look up to the strange voice but all l see is a big blur. At the time, l did not realize it was my last good day.

Bella, an uptight, cold executive, is on her way home for Christmas.
