The compass.
The single compass that
changed my life forever.

The compass brought me
back to the day silence
came across my house.

My father is in the army,
or was until the call came in.

The knock at the door,
the questioning voice of my mom. The shock as she screamed.

She lay grasping the envelope,
she knew what it was,
and I knew what it meant.

But why didn't I act the same way?

The secret was...
I knew he was alive and
this compass was going
to lead me to him
one way or another.

Where will this adventure take me?

I don't know,
