16 year old Tessa Madigan lives in future America, which is now called The Wild because anyone could get lost in the wild if they choose to leave their side of the country. 

Everyone is branded with a sign of who their parents are. Adults and their kids have the same sign. Kids ages 0-18 live on one side, and adults and elders on the other. No contact whatsoever.

 There's no certain way to tell wether or not you'll be qualified to live on the adult side. You need athletic ability, and intelligence. Not having either of these would get you out of the country. To who knows where. But they never come back.

Including her best friend Jake.  


But she's willing to find him.
