I stared writing Power, Hope, Futility, Oblivion as a gay vampire story. As the story
evolved, it shifted to a story about a vampire who just happened to be gay and the
world and beings surrounding him. I've also written the story primarily in the first
person. As the story shifts perspectives often.
Most vampire stories take place in Europe. I've tried to take Europe out as the
primary focus. I've also placed covens all over the world and I'm careful to mention
various locations, but Europe still plays an important role in the story. The major
focus of the story becomes the Americas. It gives a fresher, newer perspective on New World vampires.
The mythologies are also borrowed from various parts of the world and from various
sources. You'll recognize names from demonology, Judeo-Christian mythology,
Primitive Islam/Islam, African cultures and pre-Columbian-South American mythology.
Where the mythologies didn't quite meet my purposes or they just weren't there, I
either stretched them a little or I invented them. I'm sure I used many other sources
that were rattling around in my head as well.
This is the first 'novel' I've ever written and I've very much enjoyed writing the story.
It's descriptive, active and alive. Power, Hope, Futility, Oblivion is meant to allow
you to follow each major character as they go through their lives, whether good or
bad. There are also two major jumping off points to look for in the future, maybe
more. I hope you enjoy the story as much as I have enjoyed writing it.
Ari and Soren's adventures continue as Soren struggles with his new vampiric urges and a coven of witches attempts to recruit Ari for their own ends.
*****
As dark dreams plague Soren, Ari finds his new abilities difficult to control. Something is awakening within him, and as his power grows, he attracts the attention of a group of witches who call themselves the Hecataeon. They believe Ari is an emanation of the goddess Hecate - a physical manifestation of her power - and they want that power for themselves. With their relationship facing challenges from within, Ari and Soren must find a way to unite their strengths before external forces tear them apart.
