Ajax Anders has been immune to sun burns. It's different levels of dark that singes him. The darker it gets the more his body  feels like it burns as if It was set on fire without a fire even being lit.

He also is in the middle of his own war against The Haze an evil villain who can create anything with his thoughts even darkness.

He wants the  entire state of New York to be filled with eternal darkness, whereas Ajax wants it to be filled with light.
