Dianne Marland's life was all but exciting. She was her brother's stand-in mother, was friendless, and was a proud member of both the Bookworm Club, and the Mathletes. But here comes Principal Brown, and he has a crazy notion that includes throwing Dianne in a group with the cutest boy in her year, a delinquent senior, and an attractive and popular introvert, and then kicking the four of them out of school to join a music competition in New York. It sounds insane to Dianne at first, but maybe a little excitement really is what she needs the most right now. And maybe, her three new group members plus the competition will give her exactly just that.
