The war between the Bonded dragons and the wild dragons is not going well. The wilds are growing more and more adventurous, banding together and attacking towns and cities under the protection of the Compounds and their Riders. More and more Bonded dragons are dying, and more and more young dragons are being hatched to train more Riders.

Radran and his dragon Ly-ver-sek are trainees in Darturin Compound, but they are forced to flee when wilds attack the Compound and destroy it. While on the run from a dangerous enemy that wants them both killed, they must find answers to secrets they didn't know they had.
