He came in every night when her shift ended for two weeks. He'd drive her home in his police car, tuck fallen strands of hair behind her ear. He always smelled of old spice and hard work, and he seemed to have an intense interest in everything she said to him. He told her she was beautiful. He told her he wanted to give her any and everything she always wanted. After knowing him for only three weeks, she married him. Darcie thought for the first time since her parent's death she had finally found someone to love her. She was finally happy. It took her a little over a year to realize how tremendous the mistake she made was. By then Harold had made it perfectly clear that divorce was not an option. 'Til death do us part. Besides, Harold would tell her before and after he beat her, if she ever left him he'd find her and make life ten times worse than it already was. Now, as she lay there next to him in the four poster bed he let her pick out in the early months, his snoring bouncing off the surrounding walls, and herself naked and in pain, Darcie decided she'd take her chances. She was out of options. No matter the consequences, finally, it was time to run. **Trigger Warning** This book contains adult content, including but not limited to coarse language and scenes of sexual and physical assault. I had to admit, he was cute. His eyes sparkled nervously and his lips were a lovely shade of natural red. He had his arms crossed over his chest, a gesture that could possibly get him knocked out in this place. He looked as though he could fake a tough guy but at heart he was gentle. I had good instincts and they were screaming to steer clear of this guy. Why? Because he would break my heart. Why is that all the best relationships happen at the strangest of times? Laurel meets Trey inside of a Juvenile Detention Centre and the two of them become closer than anything. For Laurel, Trey was the first friend in her life.
