Kat Matthews was overweight all throughout middle school. She was constantly teased for it. Now that she's about to start high school and get a fresh start, Kat is determined to get skinny. And she does a good job about it! But when she becomes skinny, like she wanted, she doesn't stop. And she becomes thinner, And thinner, Thinner... Thinner... Thinner... And yet she still sees the overweight girl she used to be. Please do not read this if you are sensitive to swearing or vulgar language. This is a topic I feel very strongly about because so many of these insults have been aimed at me. I don't usually cuss so much in books. If you are offended by this, I apologize, but a lot of the events that happen in the book have happened to me. I've never been anorexic, but it is a serious illness that affects up to 30 million people across the world. Current fashions and styles that people see in magazines encourage weight loss and negatively impact the minds of so many young girls. Toys like Barbies, while seemingly harmless, promote tiny waists and make little girls as young as six years old feel fat and ugly. The ideal visual of the term "beautiful" is seriously flawed and makes so many people feel horrible about themselves. My goal is to make people realize that they are beautiful no matter what race they are, what hair color they have, or how "fat" they are. I want people to read this and realize how messed up our society is. There would be no such thing as anorexia if people didn't feel put down by other people or felt that they were ugly because they didn't look like the photoshopped magazine photos of Cara Delevingne or whichever model they idolized. No one can look like that! I blame technology and magazines promoting dietary pills, etc. Don't take diet pills if you don't need them! You are beautiful! You don't need to be skinny! Please read this with an open mind towards anorexia and obesity and understand what so many people across the world are going through.
