Despite his circumstances, Haymitch remained somewhat optimistic about his chances of victory, promising his family that he would never back down no matter what happens to him in that arena. Throughout his journey he will make choices beyond anything he could have imagined, and make mistakes that are irreversible-especially in the Capitols eyes.
