It all started when Mercedes saw Carston on the first day of 9th grade. She fell in like instantly. There was something about the blonde hair-blue eye combination along with his skills in baseball that drew her to like him. But she couldn't. Because Kyleigh seemed to share the same interest in him, Mercedes promised herself that she would not break her friend's heart by pursuing the same guy. Gia, on the other hand fell in "like" kind of like how the character in Gia and Mercedes's favorite book fell in love, or like how you fall asleep. But the person Gia had developed a crush on was someone that was almost completely off-limits.....It was Mercedes's twin brother, Chase. Mercedes made Gia promise to never fall in like with her jerk of a twin brother because she would get her heart broken. Gia agreed to promise at the time she was forced to. Join these best friends through an epic journey of high school crushes and trials in friendship.

Amlyne had been fighting the feelings she felt for Jeffrey Alan or Jeff for 10 years. They met when she was 11 and he was 14. He had moved from Vermont to South Carolina. He was a chubby boy who wanted nothing more than to race cars. She was a be-speckled, mousy 11 year old who just tried to stay out of the way of bullies. The day they met something happened. They became as close as brother and sister. They ran and played, climbed trees, worked on cars, and read Race Car magazines. She looked up to him as the brother she never had. She taught him how to be a redneck Southerner and he taught her how to take care of herself. As time went by the feelings of friendship became more. For a while, it was difficult to be friends. JP got a little too into the Redneck life. He let people lead him down a dark path that Amlyne could not help him out of, or so she thought. He ran with a rough crowd that scared Amlyne. She not only had to fight her own feelings but also had to fight with her parents. They did not approve of JP. They saw him as bad influence and dangerous. So while Amlyne was still under 18, she had to do as she was told. All that was soon to change.
