Retired head teacher and widower, Martha is seventy-eight when she is diagnosed with Age Related Macular Degeneration.  

This story follows Martha from her initial diagnosis through several unsuccessful treatments and how the deterioration in her vision has devastating effects upon her independence and upon her relationship with her family. 

Associated with her impairment, Martha becomes troubled with visual hallucinations that link to a tragedy buried deep in her past and one she was determined to keep secret.  Despite the steady decline in her vision, she embarks upon a difficult journey, with the intention of making amends for past mistakes.
