Sunpearl is the lead mare of Silverblaze's herd. She's a gentle horse, but an inexperienced leader. She ended up adopting Pepper, Silverblaze's son. 
The catch - Silverblaze was the horse who Sundancer loved and still loves. Pepper is Sundancer's son and doesn't even know. Sundancer is driven by a burning hatred for the entire herd - especially Sunpearl. But one winter when circumstances force the two herds together it seems like both a good and a bad thing.
