Jovey Stokke is living her normal life in the darkened kingdom of Eskavån. Nothing seems out of the ordinary considering the darkness had taken over about one-hundred years before her time.
But when her sixteenth-birthday comes, and her sister goes missing, everything changes. Sixteen is the age of testing. Every young teen must participate in hopes that they are not taken away to Dragon School. Talk that it was a torturous and cruel place struck fear into everyone.
But when Jovey is sent off to the place she dreads going to, she discovers a century old secret that's been kept hidden from everyone. Nothing is as it seems anymore. The most harmless things can also be the most dangerous, and Jovey might find that out the hard way.

I grew up in a world where dragon riders were revered for not only their bravery and looks, but also for their intelligence. Children would spend days on end studying just in the hopes that they would get accepted to the Rider School, and those who did get accepted left their homes like kings, followed with respect and well wishes.
