This is an alternate universe. Set in the 1700's, when colonists were starting to come to the new world.
Annabeth Chase is a woman. She graduated top of her class in Oxford. Actually she is the only woman to graduate oxford (at that time). Annabeth wants to be a navigator on a ship to go to the new world. One problem. No ship wants to take a woman, especially one who wants to be a navigator, one of the most important jobs on board a ship. Except the Argo II. The Captain of the ship thinks that women can probably do the job of a navigator probably better that a man can. Annabeth Chase, who can tell you ten facts about any subject and figure out a seven digit math problem in her head in seconds, was stumped by what he thought. Who would want a woman? Whatever he thought she wouldn't argue.
